Observation start time: 08:00:00 Observation end time: 15:45:00 Total observation time: 7.75 hours
Official Counter: Kate McKay
Observers: Chuck Carlson, Holly Bauer, Phil Brown, Tom Momeyer
Visitors: 111 including a group from NH Audubon Seacoast Chapter. Thanks for visiting!
Weather: Warm and cloudy with a light breeze from the southwest. Hazy in the distance. Temps in the high fifties. Sprinkle of rain at the end of the day.
Raptor Observations: An Osprey flying over North Pack shortly after 1:30pm was the first migrant of the day and of October. A couple more Ospreys, two sharpies, and one Peregrine followed later in the afternoon.
Non-raptor Observations: Other birds including a Nashville Warbler perching in the birch sapling next to the platform, a Palm Warbler hopping about, and a Pine Siskin flying over.
At one point, I heard the sound of munching and looked around to spy a large porcupine sitting in the top of a young oak tree. It nosily ripped off oak leaves and devoured them with gusto before climbing down again and disappearing.
Predictions: More southwest winds tomorrow. Saturday still looks like a good day, with abundant sunshine and northerly winds in the forecast. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Kate McKay (<northernjay444...>) Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory information may be found at: www.harriscenter.org
