Tweets - Unexpectedly nice weather this morning, as there was no pre-dawn
fog and the thin overcast cleared by about 8:30. So mostly sunny, no wind,
pleasant temperatures. The switch-over to fall/winter birds continues.

Highlights:
Greater White-fronted Goose - One somewhat briefly associated with
Canadas north of the Viewing Mound. First of Fall (FOF)
American Wigeon - Two flew down the slough (FOF)
Killdeer - About 20; quite a lot, really
Wilson's Snipe - One below weir (FOF)
Double-crested Cormorant - One flew north; we had one 3 weeks ago, so
this is Second of Fall
California Gull - At least one with a few Glaucous-winged Gulls,
staying on the Event Pad (paved area west of the velodrome) (FOF)
Cooper's Hawk - Juvenile harassing/being harassed by American Crows
all morning
Hutton's Vireo - At least 2 near the windmill (FOF)
American Pipit - A couple of flybys; at least two birds
Evening Grosbeak - Calling while flying north (unseen)
White-crowned Sparrow - "Gambel's"-type heard singing (FOF for
subspecies)
Savannah Sparrow - We counted at least 8, so a migrant push of these;
none the last 2 weeks.
Western Meadowlark - At least 5, including some singing, near Climbing
Rock and north of Fields 7-8-9 (FOF)
Common Yellowthroat - A very few heard calling, quite probably the
last of the year

That's six species FOF, and one subspecies. Quite the changeover.

Misses today included Gadwall, Hooded Merganser, American Coot, Green
Heron, Red-tailed Hawk, and Bushtit. Rather a short list.

For the day, 55 species.
