Subject: [cayugabirds-l] October 1 Thursday Birding Meetup Recap and Next Week's Plans
Today we met at Duemling Meadows near the Cornell Lab of Ornithology for our Thursday Morning Birding Meetup. We’d gone there a few weeks ago in mid-August and seen some interesting bird action, including a Merlin that was flying around with some Kestrels. We had high hopes for this morning, but the weather didn’t cooperate. Eleven hardy souls showed up anyway, despite the rain and the scarcity of birds, which were obviously intelligent enough to take shelter in the thick foliage around us. But we still had a great time, and a few birds did peek out to see what we were about—including the White-throated Sparrow that Jane Bain managed to photograph, which you can see in my Cayuga Bird Club Facebook post.
Want to join us next week? We'll be checking out fall sparrows at Freese Road Community Gardens and nearby locations at 7:30 am. From Ithaca: Take Route 13 North, turn right on Sapsucker Woods Road. Turn left on Hanshaw Road and then right on Freese Road. Slightly less than a half mile, look for a dirt driveway on the left leading to the parking area in the gardens.
