Subject: [OrangeCountyBirding] Munhall Saddle birds
I spent 3 hours this morning, Oct 1, with seven other birders at Munhall Saddle. We were successful in seeing two Clark's Nutcrackers and two Evening Grosbeaks. Tom Wurster spotted the first nutcracker as it flew in from the northeast, landed in the Coulter pine grove west of the road, foraged for 5-10 minutes, then flew south, making several stop before disappearing over the pass. As it was perched nearby the top of the pass, a second nutcracker flew in and followed the same general trajectory. A little bit later, Curtis Marantz heard two Evening Grosbeaks calling and we were able to see a male and female for about 5 seconds as they flew almost directly overhead going east. I left around 9:50 am, but others remained and may have additional birds to report later.Tom Benson Redlands, CA
