Subject: [SFBirds] recent observations: Parula, Redstarts and Corona Heights October Walk date change

Some fun observations from the past few days:

American Redstart(s) - adult males at Middle Lake and Lincoln Park Golf Course (the "calliope tree") on Monday, 9/28, were continuing birds found earlier last week. This morning, 9/30, a new American Redstart at Pine Lake Park was a hatch year male/female type AKA "Yellowstart"

Northern Parula - was at Middle Lake 9/28, high up in the blooming eucalyptus tree above the tobaccos at the base of the hill at the sw corner of the lake. Also heard here was a getting late Selasphorus (Rufous more likely by this date but you never know.)

Yesterday a White-tailed Kite flew over Corona Hill shortly before noon. A small flock of Vaux's Swifts (~12) spent about a half hour foraging low over the Randall Museum mid-morning. Typically the swifts just blast through museum airspace so it was cool to get to watch them at close range for an extended period of time.

The Corona Heights Walk is going down next Month but on the SECOND Saturday 10/10 instead of the usual third Saturday.

You can sign up for it here:

Can't promise we'll see a Clark's Nutcracker but I'm sure we'll have a surprise or two.

Happy Fall Birding to All,
