Visitors: 9 visitors today at north lookout. Joined by Erick Boenzli, Paul Servantes, and Ed Norman, who were really great company. Plus, I now had people to gloat at after the Bears won last night! I might watch eagles in PA for a living but I won't forget where I came from. #beardown
Weather: Overcast all day, and I was underdressed for the chilly morning. 57-67 degrees F with a constant NW wind gusting up to 17 mph.
Raptor Observations: Bald eagle (4): 0944a, 1015a, 1020a, 1314i
Pretty consistent trickle of accips all day, plus a straggler broad-winged I named Kevin McCallister. I'm sure there's a chance for more Kevins in the next week or so, but I'm more looking forward to the sharpies and falcons to start ramping up!
Non-raptor Observations: Had a DICKCISSEL giving its fart-like flight calls overhead! Total surprise.
Otherwise, fun corvid day. 86 blue jays, an enormous murder of 55 crows, and ravens were especially active today, playing and somersaulting in the updrafts. Lots of other songbirds too: cowbirds, warbler sps, waxwings, tree swallows, goldfinches.
Predictions: Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 76.
