Given the increase in Evening Grosbeak reports, I want to point out that Evening Grosbeak calls can be recorded and assigned to type, similar to Red Crossbills. eBird provided an article on this some time ago, forgive me if there is something more recent. Given the breadth of the ongoing irruption, southern California data points on Evening Grosbeaks and Red Crossbills (though it is not clear to me that there is an ongoing Red Crossbill dispersion that is following what we are seeing for Pinyon Jays, Clark's Nutcrackers, Red-breasted Nuthatches, and Evening Grosbeaks) that provide insight into the individuals' geographic origins may build an interesting story from this ongoing phenomenon.
