Time started: 0724 Time finished: 1400 Last Friday (Sep. 25) I surveyed birds at Red Slough. The weather was partly cloudy, mild, and calm. 50 species were found. Birding was slow and only a few migrants were observed. Here is my list for that day: Black-bellied Whistling Duck - 221 Wood Duck - 63 Blue-winged Teal - 11 Ring-necked Duck - 3 Pied-billed Grebe – 11 Neotropic Cormorant - 5 Anhinga - 10 Great-blue Heron - 2 Great Egret - 19 Snowy Egret - 24 Little-blue Heron - 7 Cattle Egret - 11 Green Heron - 7 White Ibis - 4 White-faced Ibis - 2 (red eyes) Black Vulture - 34 Turkey Vulture – 30 Cooper's Hawk - 1 Red-shouldered Hawk - 3 Merlin - 1 Sora - 1 Purple Gallinule - 49 Common Gallinule - 80 American Coot - 3 Killdeer - 10 Solitary Sandpiper - 2 Lesser Yellowlegs - 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo - 1 Barred Owl - 1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird - 1 Red-headed Woodpecker - 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker - 3 Downy Woodpecker - 3 Pileated Woodpecker - 5 Eastern Phoebe - 6 White-eyed Vireo- 7 Yellow-throated Vireo - 2 Blue Jay - 1 American Crow - 16 Northern Rough-winged Swallow - 200 Carolina Chickadee - 6 Tufted Titmouse - 2 Carolina Wren - 6 Marsh Wren - 1 Gray Catbird - 3 Brown Thrasher - 1 Common Yellowthroat - 2 Summer Tanager - 3 Northern Cardinal - 3 Red-winged Blackbird - 400 Herps: American Alligator Red -eared Slider Eastern River Cooter Odes: Lilypad Forktail Common Green Darner Eastern Pondhawk Blue Dasher Wandering Glider Red Saddlebags Striped Saddlebags Black Saddlebags Good birding!
