Weather: Another great day on the tower. With ideal wind conditions from the North. Clear blue skies. Warm and Sunny!
Raptor Observations: First of the season immature Red-Shouldered Hawk (1) was spotted! Turkey Vultures (599) lead the way as their movements increase. Sharp-shinned Hawks (524) gave us a steady trickle throughout the day. All falcons were represented again today with American Kestrels (94), Merlins (2) and Peregrines(3). A Peregrine gave us great entertainment attempting to push a Bald Eagle out of the Sky. Nice to have 11 species of raptors today!
Non-raptor Observations: Blue Jays were active with 12381 storming the tower within the first hour of the count, totalling 17603 over the entire day. Great selection of sparrows were viewed with the Clay-Colored Sparrow(1) returning and a small group of White Throated Sparrow(5). Seasons first of a pair of Trumpeter Swan! Good selection of thrushes with Veery, Hermit and Swainson's seen.
Our local fox was spotted spooking a few Great Blue Herons towards the Hunt Club this morning.
Predictions: Tomorrow looking like similar conditions with clear skies, warm temperatures and our preferred northern wind.
