Landlubber birders may be interested to know that a young (2nd year?) Masked/Nazca Booby first seen roosting at the tip of the south jetty at the mouth of Mission Bay on 12 Sep was still present there yesterday, 26 Sep. It was present yesterday at 7:15AM as we departed on our pelagic trip, but was not present on our return in the late afternoon--no doubt due to all the human fisherman disturbance. This bird should be quite visible with a scope from Ocean Beach Dog Beach. Because of the strong potential for human disturbance during the day, early morning would seemingly be best. We thought the bird still unidentifiable as to Masked or Nazca, but will be further studying the myriad of photos of it taken from the boat.
