Visitors: 12 visitors, including a group of 4 film students scouting the knob as a location for a dramatic bleed-out scene they're planning to do there. Joined by Gideon Israel and Mike Murphy, who were both great company.
Weather: 45-65 degrees F, partly cloudy, N wind up to 12 mph.
Raptor Observations: Decided to get up early and catch the sunrise today, and was rewarded with a pre-dawn kestrel. The sunrise itself was beautiful too! Overall, raptors were slower than expected today.
Non-raptor Observations: With over 1 million nocturnal migrants passing through the county last night, I was expecting an exciting morning flight this morning. While there was an okay numbers of warblers and other small passerines flying, none landed for the photo ops I was hoping for.
Some good birds though. WORM-EATING WARBLER was the standout highlight, plus lots of yellow-rumped, a rose-breasted grosbeak, scarlet tanagers, a midday nighthawk (where were you at sunrise??), a few dozen waxwings, and a conservative count of 157 blue jays.
Predictions: Rain likely, mainly after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 66. Breezy, with a north wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
