The Ranch received some nice rain early in the morning. It basically stopped before we opened the nets-thankfully. Wilson's Warblers were chipping most of the morning while searching for insects. Sixteen bird species were captured today with a highlight of an adult male Western Tanager and a Clay-colored Sparrow. Those sparrows are very beautiful. A birder saw a Townsend's Warbler around the banding station- a bit late for them but seems there are more around the area this fall. *37 New Banded Birds* Wilson's Warbler- 17 Orange-crowned Warbler- 1 Common Yellowthroat- 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet- 2 Lesser Goldfinch- 1 Pine Sisken- 3 Lincoln's Sparrow- 1 Clay-colored Sparrow- 1 Pink-sided Junco (Dark-eyed)- 1 Oregon Junco (Dark-eyed)- 1 Gambel's White-crowned Sparrow- 1 Spotted Towhee- 1 Western Tanager- 1 Swainson's Thrush- 1 Hermit Thrush- 3 Yellow-breasted Chat- 1
The Banding station will be open tomorrow from sunrise until @ noon. There will be a 5th grade class from 9-11 AM tomorrow at the banding station. If wanting to visit the ranch, please register online at www.aikenaudubon.com
