On Monday, I found another odd group of migrants in the Pierre area, a
large group of egrets on Discovery Island. I counted 167 W. Cattle Egrets
and 12 Snowy Egrets in the flock. Not only are these two species rather
unusual this far west, but these numbers typically aren't seen except in
breeding colonies. But in my experience, egrets are particularly loathe to
migrate in dismal weather, which may explain this fallout.
