Am kinda amazed I found these birds despite how densely fogged in it was up here. Both birds flew in and foraged in the firebreak for 2-3 minutes before taking off. Medium-size, mostly pale gray corvids with long bill, mostly black wings with white secondaries, and vivid black and white tail. Silent. Seemed frantically intent on finding food and can’t help but wonder how all these irrupting birds are faring in terms of getting enough to eat."

- Comments: "First discovered by Jay Carroll a few days ago. About fifteen minutes after I began birding, a Clark’s called, and about ten minutes later, one flew across my field of view. Two individuals were foraging near the large red and white communications tower, and a third was seen about 0.5 mile south. I heard only four or so vocalizations."

- Comments: "Continuing bird, seen in the creek bed just west of the Hwy 1 Bridge. Moved in and out of the willows as it appeared to forage along the creek. It held its mouth open all the time and I could see an injury or infection around the mouth which is visible in my photos. (I'll advise Pacific Wildlife Care of the injury but it may be too mobile for them to catch it to apply medical treatment.)"

Both giving thick metallic junco-like chip calls and one singing musical slower-paced and incomplete-sounding trilled song typical of this subspecies/phenotype. Photos"
