Weather: Rain delayed the start of the count. Remaining low overcast with moderate northeast winds. Cool and fall-like weather! Drizzle in the last half-hour became a steady rain for the hike down.
Raptor Observations: A steady flight with some nice looks as the conditions kept most migrants low. Seven each of Osprey and Bald Eagle. A moderate Accip flight with 20 sharpies and 6 Coops. A dozen Broad-winged Hawks migrated including a group of six. Falcons were steady with 11 kestrels and four Merlins.
Non-raptor Observations: 21 Canada Geese, 11 Common Mergansers, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Belted Kingfisher, 6 Northern Flickers, 2 Common Ravens, 175 Cedar Waxwings, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, 36 monarchs. https://ebird.org/checklist/S395335278
Predictions: TOMORROW: Cloudy. High 67F. Winds NE at 10-20mph. Similar to today when it wasn't raining, though hopefully not as damp. I would expect a steady flow of migrants again. Chances of broad-wings is hard to predict. Large numbers are still being reported north of us but the easterly component to the wind may push them west to the mountain sites. Expect moderate migration.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. High 67F. Winds NE at 10-15mph. Overall similar but the sunshine may result in thermals and higher altitude flight. Expect moderate migration.
FRIDAY: Intervals of clouds and sun. High around 70F. Winds NNE at 10-20mph. Similar again, but more sun and stronger winds.
