Just to clarify the temperature issues are warm water temperatures. Warm water holds less food, and less oxygen. The temperatures on shore, on land, do not really have any bearing on the food on the ocean. Although sometimes it can feel warmer in Half Moon Bay when the water temperature is warm.

Walking our dog on Poplar beach in half Moon Bay last week on Wednesday morning I saw five Common Murre bodies and I think we saw one gull one as well. I did a little research online to see and they did give different reasons, including their food source becoming impacted by temperature variations, and the week before had been that really hot weather in the Bay Area and even over on the coast.

Walking Tunirltas Creek on Friday and notice a number of dead birds on the beach. I believe some were cormorant but there were also several of what appeared to be common murres. I don't think I have seen them around Half Moon Bay so notbsure of the ID - any thoughts on why they might be dying in that area? Bodies were intact.
