Weather: Partly sunny becoming mostly cloudy. Light wind from the N/NE, strongest in the morning. A few low clouds and haze but clear in the afternoon. Temps stayed close to 50 degrees.
Raptor Observations: Another great day for migration! A slight trickle of birds in the morning soon turned into a nice stream of birds who would sometimes slow down to kettle but oftentimes kept flying by in a hurry. The broad-wing groups were often accompanied by an eagle or two. We had our first goshawk of the season fly by high overhead around 12pm. Substantially larger than the broad-wings nearby, it even seemed big next to a Bald Eagle. In the afternoon, a beautiful adult sharpie flew by fairly close.
Non-raptor Observations: The usual suspects were around today along with a late nighthawk who flew over the valley during 1 o'clock. We also saw a line of 33 geese migrating.
Monarchs: 24/787
Predictions: Some clouds tomorrow with wind from the northeast. There are still more broad-wings to come!
At noon, we are planning on releasing one or two rehabilitated raptors. Don't miss this special opportunity to see a raptor up close!
A note for parking: The State Police will be working on their tower and building where our staff/volunteers would normally park.
