I am providing this message on behalf of the Orleans Audubon Society and two of our members, Andrew and Carol Stamm. They are residents of Harahan who keep Purple Martin houses in their backyard. The City of Harahan has a suit against them, claiming that the Purple Martins are a nuisance, in spite of the fact that Harahan has declared itself to be a wild bird sanctuary. The Stamms appealed their case to the 24th Judicial District Court in Gretna, where the case was assigned to Judge Stephen Enright, Jr. A hearing date for pre-trial motions is tentatively set for Wednesday, November 18, 2026 at 9:00 a.m., where the Stamms will attempt to have the case dismissed. Your presence there will show your concern for Purple Martins in Harahan and everywhere.
*Note: This hearing, originally scheduled for September 23rd, has been rescheduled and tentatively moved to November 18th. Please spread the word!*
