Several years ago I did a Surfrider beach cleanup at Tunitas Creek, a place fampus for partying. It was a trashy mess. Fast forward to the other day when I visited the newly created county park there. It is really nice.
From the bluff I could see shore birds so made my way down to the beach and found very large numbers of Heermann's Gulls, a migratory species - 90 - 95% of the population nest on one tiny island in the Gulf of California. They migrate in reverse, south to north. Typical Western Gull for comparison.
