I noticed yesterday that the gate to the dirt and gravel road from Figueroa Mountain Road to the Pino Alto peak (sometimes referred to as Lookout Road) is now open. The road is very drivable with a 4WD truck or SUV with good ground clearance. This makes birding in the area far easier, and yesterday morning I found Mountain Chickadees, Red Breasted Nuthatch, Black Throated Gray Warblers and possibly a Western Tanager. I did not see Clark's Nutcrackers, though I noticed others reported them in this area several days earlier.
