Spent much of the time moving relatively quickly on the ground through the vegetation. First detected when the bird was inadvertently flushed while walking along the trail after which it flew approximately 15-feet away. Then landed and continued foraging, seen well on the ground. White outer tail feathers were visible in flight, and tail not long (much shorter than American pipit). Overall very pale, mostly straw-colored, with darker streaking around the upper breast, on the top of the head, and down the back. White bracing on the back observed between the dark back streaks. White wing bars with dark centers to flight feathers and wing coverts. The dark eye stood out on a pale face. In flight, repeated "sqweet" calls were heard."
