Observation start time: 09:00:00 Observation end time: 16:00:00 Total observation time: 7 hours
Official Counter: Jen Barrall
Observers: Craig McCoy, Donna Paley, Fred Paley, Ken Orvis, Larry Coble, Mike Sankovich, Phil Keener, Randy Phillips, Tom Worman
Visitors: 57 visitors, including 17 from Audubon birding group and several coming for York County Park's advertised hawk migration program
Weather: Mostly cloudy sky throughout the day, with two very brief and light periods of rain. Light (to almost still) NE to ESE wind; temps reaching low 70s.
Raptor Observations: Great day for BWHAs at Rocky Ridge! Cloud cover allowed us to find numerous kettles, with highest numbers seen 12:50-1:10PM and 1:50-2:10PM. At times, BWHAs were stretched left to right and kettling in different groups. Quite the spectacle to see a "river" of hawks stream past the platform. Cloud ceiling dropped through the end of the count period, reducing migrants; some seen in the last hour struggled to gain lift.
Non-raptor Observations: Common Nighthawk (1) Pileated Woodpecker (1) gave a nice look flying over the platform Phil's Rock Pigeon (1) Hummingbord (1) Monarch (47)
Predictions: slow day predicted with expected rain ======================================================================== Report submitted by Parks Volunteer (<parks...>)
