Today we had our Tudek Park bird walk for children, and there were 14 participants, including children and their adults. The cool and cloudy weather helped have a pleasant walk around the pollinator garden. At the garden we saw mostly resident birds: black-capped Chickadees, Song Sparrows, and many American Goldfinches feeding on the dry seed heads standing on the garden. They were so focused that they let us get really close as we walked along the path. The notable migrant was a female looking American Redstart, that wove her way around the tree branches for a while. We also got to do some birding by ear, enjoying Carolina Wrens, Gray Catbirds, and American Robins. The Bluejays kept calling and flying over head through most of the walk. The crowd was delightful, with curious and knowledgeable children, pointing out great findings, and having a deep understanding of birds.
