Checking in here with a weekly update from the Wildcat Hills station. Unfortunately more bad weather this week caused the early closing or limited opening of the station resulting in lower numbers of birds caught. I banded a total of 73 birds of 16 different species, including one new species for the season.

Red Crossbill: 24
Spotted Towhee: 12
House Finch: 11
Red-breasted Nuthatch: 5
Orange-crowned Warbler: 3
Pine Siskin: 2
Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon’s): 2
Pygmy Nuthatch: 2
Swainson’s Thrush: 2 *new species*
Western Tanager: 2
Pink-sided Junco: 2
Cassin’s Finch: 2
Wilson’s Warbler: 1
Lesser Goldfinch: 1
Townsend’s Warbler: 1
Chipping Sparrow: 1

The station will be open Tuesday (9/22) through Saturday (9/26) next week. Nets will open at 6:30am and will close at 12:30pm, weather permitting. Come visit and enjoy the birds with me!
