Led a trip at COP for SB Audubon this morning. Shorebirds were abundant and varied. Best birds of the day were an Osprey fly-over, a Common Murre just a few yards offshore at the point, a large number of Red-necked Phalarope at the dune pond along with a single Solitary Sandpiper. The tern flock in the Plover Reserve included Royal and Elegant (a great opportunity to study and distinguish these species) and several Forster's Tern. Couldn't find any less common terns in the group. Last bird of interest was a Loggerhead Shrike in the grassy fields 100 yards out from Isla Vista. South coast birding is definitely picking up.
