Most of us who have been out birding recently have probably encountered multiple Red-breasted Nuthatches. Those of you who do not follow state-wide rare bird alerts may not be aware that there is another species erupting across California: Clark's Nutcracker. They have been seen in Santa Barbra, San Luis Obispo, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, and San Mateo Counties, and, this morning, at Loma Prieta on the Santa Clara County side. Higher elevations seem to be the best place to look for them, but they probably could show up almost anywhere.
