Field Summary
The Piratic Flycatcher continues at Base and Meridian WA, Arizona's first
state record, found near the eastern end of a pine grove around 33.3876,
-112.3034. It feeds actively on fruits at a small water pool along the
grove's eastern edge and shows regularly between 4:20 PM and 5:45 PM,
though views are often brief and can be obstructed by pine foliage. Park at
the smaller lot north of the bridge to minimize walking in extreme heat,
and be prepared for quick sightings—scan lower and mid-canopy branches of
pines, especially early morning and late afternoon when the bird is most
active. Multiple observers have had success with scopes, and recent photos
document the bird's distinctive features.
