75. Thanks to everyone for stopping by, and thanks to all the observers for
helping spot birds (and monarchs)!
Weather:
Mix of sun and clouds with wind from the northwest. Temps in the high
fixities and low sixties.
Raptor Observations:
Steady trickle of birds throughout the day, with several small kettles
popping up here and there. In the morning, one broad-wing seemed to kite in
the breeze out in front of Pack (unusual behavior for a broad-wing). We
also enjoyed watching the local adult Peregrine rile up the ravens, several
Merlins and kestrels catching and eating dragonflies on the wing, and an
adult Bald Eagle playing with the ravens over North Pack. It was the
biggest day so far for sharpies (93) and kestrels (19).
Non-raptor Observations:
The female towhee came in close to munch on seeds with the juncos. A
Golden-crowned Kinglet, Brown Creeper, and Blue-headed Vireo were all heard
singing in the morning. Butterfly sightings included American Copper and
Mourning Cloak.
Predictions:
Looks like great weather tomorrow with more sunshine and much lighter
winds, hopefully allowing for many thermals.
Unfortunately this Sunday's Raptor Release is cancelled due to rain, but
the new plan is to release a kestrel or two on Tuesday (the 22nd) at noon.
Also, stay tuned for a possible Raptor Release later in the season!
