Not including a big field trip at the south lookout.
Weather: Partly cloudy to sunny, 70-76 degrees F. North to northwest wind with gusts up to 19.
Raptor Observations: Bald eagle (5) 0836a,0848a, 1051a, 1052a, 1148i
A couple exciting broad-winged kettles early in the morning, but movement slowed pretty quickly after. We passed the time watching local red-taileds stoop after ravens, treetop squirrels, and our owl decoy. Eagles seemed to be going straight south rather than using the ridge.
Non-raptor Observations: Maybe our most notable migrants of the day were our triple digit monarchs! Some swallow, warbler, and goldfinch movement, including a likely prairie warbler. Gideon saw a big rat snake towards the start of the trail. Hopefully it won't eat the ovenbird that came to check me out as I was leaving.
Predictions: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Lehigh Gap Nature Center (<mail...>) Bake Oven Knob information may be found at: www.lgnc.org
