Subject: [SFBirds] Raptor Migration update from Hawk Hill
Hello SF Birders,

Coming to you from GGRO Hawkwatch over on Hawk Hill with an update on
raptor migration!

Today 9/18 we had our first official BROAD-WINGED HAWK sightings of the
season (14 birds, a mix of juveniles and adults). It's time to keep an eye
out for them over the city! MERLINS have been on the move, with a few
sighted each day this week. In addition, today at about 13:50 we were
ecstatic to see the season's first FERRUGINOUS HAWK, which came down from
the north ridge, gave us good looks from Hawk Hill before taking off toward
the city over the Bay.

A GOLDEN EAGLE was also seen today out to the east over the Bay, moving
south. An adult PEREGRINE FALCON gave us quite a show by diving repeatedly
at a COOPER'S HAWK over Rodeo Lagoon.

Acciptitrines have been strong with good numbers of both SHARP-SHINNED and
COOPER'S HAWKS being counted regularly and moving through the headlands.

As a reminder you can see Hawkwatch daily updates HERE
<https://www.parksconservancy.org/programs/daily-hawk-count> with all the
count numbers and blog reports! Also, Hawk Hill is OPEN to the public again
this year. The construction is finished and it's a great time to visit the
Hill as we come into peak time for fall raptors.

Good Hawkwatching to all!

Jenna Magee
