I had nothing rare at Ocean Beach. The majority of the shorebirds are still well upriver where they are impossible to peruse without base access. Best bird in the viewable area was an American Avocet.
The word has gotten out that the beach is open--people and a dog preceded me out to the estuary mouth and drove much of the gull flock upriver and the tern flock to the north side of the outlet. I was able to go through the tern flock through my scope, but turned up only the larger Terns-Royal, Elegant, and one Caspian Tern.
I had a single Red-breasted Nuthatch in a cypress tree in the picnic area. Nothing else of interest in the way of land birds.
There are currently no cattle in the feed lot; hence, no blackbird flocks there.
I decided to drive up Miguelito Canyon Road with the windows open to see if I could hear anything that sounded like Pinyon Jays, but had not success.
I finished at Miguelito Canyon Park, which was pretty quiet. I had a single Western Tanager but nothing else of note. Interestingly, I did not see or hear and RB Nuthatches there.
