A minimum of 21 species of migratory warblers were found in Central Park on Thursday, seen by many observers throughout all of that park and over all hours of the day, rather than from one limited area or in a very limited space of time. Not included in the tally of 21 species, there was at least one report of a Connecticut Warbler, a species that is fully expected at this period in southbound migration, and-but ideally should receive review and confirmation. Other migrants that were ongoing at Central on Thursday included Veery, Gray-cheeked, Wood, and multiple Swainsons Thrushes, and still-early Hermit Thrush. A Marsh Wren reported on Sept. 16 at Central Park is a confirmed sighting. Blue-headed Vireo had begun to be found in somewhat greater numbers. Green-winged Teal is ongoing at The Pool in the parks n-w quadrant. Many other migrant species were ongoing, including numbers of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, multiple Yellow-billed Cuckoos, and the Barred Owl by now observed by far more than ten thousand people, not all self-described as -birders-.

A Blue Grosbeak in female-like plumage was again noted at Governors Island in N.Y. County, just south of Manhattan island, on 9-17. There was a report of Blue Grosbeak from Central Park which will need reviewing.

Monarch butterflies which are now migrating thru on their way to wintering areas mainly in south-central Mexico were found in great numbers around Central Park on Thursday. Many more might be moving along on Friday, Saturday and in any coming days with northerly winds.
