Micheal was out today, so it was up to Jordan and I to lead a small group of 4 on the weekly Marymoor walk. It was a beautiful clear day after a little ground fog burned off, and though the birds weren’t numerous, it definitely showed the changing of the seasons - winter sparrows had returned - Golden-crowned Sparrows were here in force, and Fox Sparrows were ticking away from the brush. White-crowned Sparrows also seem to have increased in numbers.
Highlights:
Osprey - still one lingering
American Kestrel - one in the East Meadow, being pursued by 3 Anna’s Hummingbirds
Horned Lark - 6 in the gravel parking lot near the Climbing Wall - first in a long time for the Marymoor walk
American Pipits - same field as the Horned Larks - should be around for a long stretch now
Fox Sparrow & Golden-crowned Sparrows [see above] First of Fall [FOF]
Lincoln’s Sparrow 2 seen well
Western Tanager - 2 around
Misses today were numerous - we missed American Goldfinch, European Starling, Brown Creeper and Golden-crowned Kinglet! - we also missed swallows and swifts --
