I was at Hayton Reserve on Fir Island yesterday. There was a "pair"
of Killdeer that
were flying around 'together' in what I'd describe as a "playful"
manner. I saw them
several times over at least a half hour. Here, there, and everywhere -
always together
and never combative/territorial ... go here (sweeping and swooshing as
they went),
perch near each other, get up and rinse and repeat. What they didn't do
was to go
to the ground like they do in Spring ... otherwise it seemed like
"courtship".
I have also seen pairs of Anna's doing similar things here around our
fountain.
Most of the birds at our fountain are 'immature Goldfinches' and
that's been
true for about 2 or 3 weeks.
The rest of the bird world seems "pretty typical" here in Skagit
County. The increase
(arrival?) of Harriers and Short-Eared Owls hasn't quite started yet.
No sign of any
Snow Geese or Trumpeter Swans yet. LOTS of Canada Geese.
