Dear Martin and NH birders,
I'll put in one small piece of the answer. The NH Rare Bird Committee, of which I am chair by some cosmic error, reviews such records every year (we did our review of 2025 birds about a month ago) thanks to irreplaceable Kathy Frieden who compiles the rare sightings for us. So at some point next summer, we will review the various 2026 sightings and vote on whether to accept the skua as a first state record. We normally start with the first eBird report, but given the significance of this record I imagine that we will review every photo we can find and reach out to experts beyond New Hampshire, which we do almost annually with some sightings.
