Weather: Sunny except for a few small clouds in the morning. Warm. Light to moderate southwesterly winds.
Raptor Observations: A moderate amount of local raptor activity in the mid-morning but painfully slow for migration. Bald Eagles were most numerous with 7. Only four Broad-winged Hawks. An Osprey gave a great look as it came overhead inn the morning. Two Sharp-shinned Hawks. Local raptors included red-tails, red-shoulders, and a Cooper's Hawk.
Non-raptor Observations: Morning birding: 2 Philadelphia Vireos, Blue-winged Warbler, 3 Black-and-white Warblers, 6 Common Yellowthroats, 3 American Redstarts, 2 Magnolia Warblers, Indigo Bunting. https://ebird.org/checklist/S393381726
Predictions: TOMORROW: Some morning sun then increasing clouds. Slight chance of a rain shower. High 83F. Winds SSW at 5-10mph. Wind similar to today from an unfavorable direction. Clouds may help with spotting, but there may not be much to spot if today's result is an indication. Kittatinny Ridge sites have been reporting moderate broad-wing numbers the past few days. Sites from us up through New England have been reporting low numbers mostly. Seems unlikely a big flight will arrive.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Slight chance of a rain shower. High 83F. Winds N at 5-10mph. Probably the best day coming up. A favorable wind direction and overall good conditions for broad-wings. Clouds will help with spotting. It is just a question of whether the broad-wings are in position to get here. Check my forecast tomorrow after we see tomorrow's results.
SATURDAY: Intervals of clouds and sunshine. High 76F. Winds E at 5-10mph. Decent conditions for raptor activity, though an easterly wind can be less favorable for us to get broad-wings.
