The juvenile Siberian Sand-Plover originally found by Matt Sadowski in Saltworks is currently on the Silver Strand Training Complex-S beach, which is between Silver Strand State Beach and the YMCA Camp Surf. It is roosting with a group of Snowy Plovers but is very skittish. This beach is Navy property but the public is allowed on the hardpack/wet sand portion of the beach. Please do not enter the soft sand dune habitat or push the Snowy Plover flocks around.
Approximate location: (32.6064678, -117.1340726)
If it leaves at low tide, it may cross the highway and forage at Emory Cove like the Wilson’s Plover that was here in 2024.
