Two days ago we drove through blocks of dragonflies an hour before sunset in Madrid. It was remarkable at ground level. I've seen Nighthawks and Flycatchers feasting on swarms up high numerous times as would be expected. Why they were at ground level I don't know for sure but would suspect winds aloft or food source.
