Bake Oven Knob 2 miles North of Germansville, Pennsylvania, USA Daily Raptor Counts: Sep 15, 2026 -------------------------------------------------------------------
Observation start time: 07:30:00 Observation end time: 17:00:00 Total observation time: 9 hours
Official Counter: Andre Vu
Observers:
Visitors: 22 visitors at south lookout, interacted with 17.
I was joined today by Brody Ritter, Scott Keys, Dan Michael, Doug Burton (thanks for the sandwich!), John Leskosky, Barry Kwansny, Ed Wanamaker, Bob Astelford, Andrew Martin, and the eagle-eyed Travis Dennig. I think I wrote everyone's name down, but so sorry if I did miss you! I'm glad I got to see such a beautiful migration with everyone and really appreciate your help documenting it.
Weather: 61-72 degrees F, bluebird skies all day. Light W wind becoming S by the end of the day, 0-9 mph. Chilly morning in high 40s as I walked out the door.
Raptor Observations: Bald eagle (5): 1047i, 1255a, 1303a, 1350a, 1605i
Finally checked off being bedazzled by a bona-fide broad-winged bonanza off my birding bucket list. Biggest batch boasted 63 birds - but I know they can get much bigger than that! Really looking forward to the rest of this week.
Our new owl pole is working great. Brought in a merlin, kestrel, broad-winged, red-tailed, and a couple sharp-shinned for some awesome views.
Non-raptor Observations: A singing yellow-throated vireo was a nice surprise. I haven't been reporting hummingbirds on here but have been noticing them seeming to decline, only 2 today compared to having over a dozen most days a couple weeks ago. Not many notable birds other than that.
Predictions: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Lehigh Gap Nature Center (<mail...>) Bake Oven Knob information may be found at: www.lgnc.org
