Black Swift is a strictly casual migrant in Fall with far fewer records at this season than there even are in spring when it's more reliable under certain weather conditions. However, following one bird being photographed at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery on Point Loma on the 13th, I just had three birds circling around in the Tijuana River Valley over the big fallow field along the north side of Sunset between Hollister and the dead end at the east end of Sunset. Minutes later they drifted off in the general East Northeast direction. Presumably once this solid marine layer starts breaking up, which it seems to be starting to do now, any swifts would be much more difficult to find. Not only was it fully overcast this morning, but we had what's known as a Catalina Eddy forming right offshore which results in a pretty good southerly breeze as well, all of which probably help to keep the birds down relatively low. The same forecast exists for tomorrow morning, so if folks would like to do a Hail Mary, you might try the first 2 hours of light tomorrow morning, as long as it is indeed solid overcast, at places like Point Loma or Mount Soledad or maybe back here in the TRV.....
In the low-hanging fruit category, there's a young male Vermilion Flycatcher also here along Sunset.
