Subject: [LACoBirds] Any update on the Red-footed Booby found in Malibu yesterday?
Hi all,

I’m wondering if anyone has an update on the Red-footed Booby that was seen
in Malibu early yesterday.

We first found the bird yesterday morning during a regular LA Birders –
Students field trip on the beach in Malibu. At the time, we could tell that
something seemed wrong, but we didn’t realize until later, after reviewing
our photos, that there was a loop-shaped metal fishhook clearly stuck in
its throat. That may explain why it came ashore — perhaps it was looking
for help.

Unfortunately, the bird flew off before it could be captured and taken to a
wildlife rescue center. We heard that it was seen at a few other locations
later in the day, but we haven’t been able to find out what happened after
that.

Does anyone know the latest update? Has the bird been rescued or received
any help?

Thank you very much for any information.

Best,
Hugo
