Subject: [sbcobirding] Nutcracker spectacle this morning
Thanks to a few birders keeping better counts than I could, I would conservatively estimate over 1100 Clark’s Nutcrackers passing by La Cumbre Peak this morning, between 8:00 and 9:30. They moved almost exclusively east to west along the ridge and sometimes lower below the peak, making counting more difficult against the dark slopes. I didn’t see any groups heading the other direction. Occasionally a few would stop and call in the conifers at the peak, but they didn’t seem to stay long, and continued toward the west. I also saw one group of 40 or 50 land briefly in the conifers just to the west of the peak at the old radio towers. But again, they didn’t stay long.

It was truly astonishing. I’m sure others can add their observations.
