Btw I took a friend to Lost Creek Shoe Shop to buy Binocs and Paul found us several kettles flying over the barn. A few miles from a mountain.
So I didn’t even have to go to a mountain Hawkwatch.
And yes she got a great pair with lots of help from young Aden.

Hawk watches in PA are getting fairly large numbers a bit ahead of the usual peak timing (third week Sept).
Perhaps it was a good year for reproduction as you mentioned seeing many Immatures.
Or BWs could be leaving northern grounds a bit early because of weather conditions or fire or whatever.

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas why there are so many Broad-winged
Hawks this year. I'm near the Spruce Run Area of the Bald Eagle SF, and
my wife and I have been seeing and photographing a lot of immature
Broad-winged Hawks. I will attach a few or our pictures. This is just
a few. We have been afforded some excellent opportunities.
