Manx Shearwater (Puffinus puffinus) (1)
- Reported Sep 10, 2026 10:20 by Kilian Hampl
- Auto selected 35.46201, -121.27206, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-121.272061&<ll...>,-121.272061
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S392678078
- Comments: "*Rare. I first noticed this shearwater as it flew almost parallel to the boat relatively close and immediately noted that it was a rather pale black-and-white shearwater and that there were large white saddlebags that extended up onto the sides of the rump similar to Violet-green Swallow. I did not see the face overly well though it did look paler. Very quickly after the bird was first spotted it banked and I was able to see the completely white undertail coverts. It then flew directly away from the boat and I tried to get others on it but it was quickly lost amongst other shearwaters. I believe only Reef was also able to get on this bird (and also noted the large white saddlebags). I believe this to be a different bird from the one seen on the 9/7 pelagic (which I also saw) as the saddlebags on this bird were notably larger and this bird appeared a little bit more worn. Not photographed."
