After a couple of weeks away from checking the egret roost, I passed by on my way home from work the other day and noticed a significant increase in the number of birds.
I stopped to count tonight, and I was not wrong. While the Great Egret population has remained in similar numbers at 214, the Snowy Egret count has more than doubled, reaching a high of 143.
Along with the egrets, I had 7 Common Nighthawks circling and feeding along the powerline cut and over the pond.
