Observation start time: 10:45:00 Observation end time: 17:00:00 Total observation time: 6.25 hours
Official Counter: Nick Bolgiano
Observers:
Visitors: Stephanie Perles and Reid Perles-LeClear from State College. Roseanna from Kish Valley was a superb spotter - I would point out a few BWs and she would count all without binoculars. But the visitors had left when the 800 BWs came through. One young hiker saw them NE of the watch site and asked what they were when he came past.
Weather: Ridge socked in with fog until 1045, when watch began. Wind W 6-7 mph, sky partly cloudy, temp 75-80F. It took awhile for the flight to develop.
Raptor Observations: The 958 BW was our 8th highest daily count in 32 years. About 800 came during 1550-1610, all gliding on the NW side.
Predictions: This is the start of the big BW week, expect Mon-Wed to be decent before rain arrives Thurs. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Nick Bolgiano (<nickbolgiano...>)
