This is a very tame report compared to all the stuff seen at La Cumbre Peak this morning, but for what it's worth, here it is"
I checked Lake Los Carneros for Nighthawks one more time starting well before dawn this morning. Again, none appeared but it's a lovely time to be out and listen to the birds wake up as the dawn comes. Reminds one why we do this . . .
I checked the overflow pond on the way out and found an Ibis in with the Egrets. This spot is worth watching.
I walked the beach at the bottom of the steps of Lot 6. This narrow trip is still pulling in a lot of shorebirds and the potential for something rare to show up at this spot continues to be good. Again the number of Marbled Godwits here is greater than on any other beach--by far the most numerous large shorebird. aand most numerous small shorebird there continues to be the Least Sandpiper.
I ended up at the Hollister Tech Park, which was overall pretty quiet. I found only one bird in the tipu trees of the Eastern lot--an Orange-crowed Warbler. Birding was slow in the trees of the western lot, but eventually I got another Orange-crowned, 2 dullish Yellow Warblers, 2 brilliant yellow Wilson's Warblers, a nice male Black-throated Gray Warbler, and both Red-breasted and White-breasted Nuthatches. I also had a single warbler seen from below that I could not identify and eventually lost in the trees. White belly, some black streaks on pale yellow sides, whitish throat. The logical choice would be an immature Townsend's Warbler but it didn't look right for that species.
