I’m checking in with a weekly recap from the Wildcat Hills Station. This week brought some windy conditions and hot temperatures resulting in shortened hours of operation. However, I banded a total of 132 birds of 25 species, including 7 new species for the season.
We have broken our record for Cassin’s Finches caught in one season at the station! In 2012 5 were captured. A notable sighting that managed to escape the net was a Green-tailed Towhee - send me luck to net one soon.
Non-bird sightings included the biggest (Woohouse's?) toad I've ever seen. If you know your toads, please chime in.
We had a full week of visitors including school groups on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and folks from the Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center joined me this morning along with a few other birders. Thank you so much for coming out to enjoy the birds with me!

Our schedule is a bit different this week. Weather permitting, the station will be open Monday (9/14) and Wednesday through Saturday (9/16 - 9/19), 6:15am to 12:15pm. The station will be closed Sunday (9/13) and Tuesday (9/15). As a reminder, our last day of operation will be October 10th.
