Visitors: Big thanks to Corinne, Liz, Hugh and Kit for helping with the count. It was good to see Matt and Tom again. It was also good to meet Pille from Amherstburg (and Estonia), Cindy and Brian from Oshawa and a group from Amherstburg and Spain who were lucky to see a banded American Kestrel released from the Tower.
Weather: Wind very light generally from south, with high humidity. Pressure fell throughout the day with cloud cover variable. Temperature around mid to low 20s
Raptor Observations: Sharp-shinned Hawks (82) took the top spot with American Kestrels (10) following well behind. A few Broad-wings turned up at the end of the day, seemingly looking for places to roost. Reasonable diversity with 8 species seen with all the falcons making an appearance.
Non-raptor Observations: Good day for flycatchers with 6 species seen including 2 Olive-sided Flycatchers perching high on the tall dead tree. New species for the season included Gadwall, Northern Shoveler, Northern Waterthrush and Northern Parula. Good numbers of vireos and warblers seen today. Also shorebirds with American Golden Plover, Lesser Yellowlegs, Spotted Sandpiper and of course Kildeer seen. The list is at https://ebird.org/checklist/S392266458
Predictions: Wind tomorrow is forecast from the NW tomorrow morning backing to WNW, which is a good direction for spotting hawks. Temperature 20c rising to 26c in the afternoon. Mix of sun and cloud.
