A Western Kingbird is lingering at the Hills area of Governors Island, which itself is just south of Manhattan, and also again being seen at Governors is a Blue Grosbeak, along with many other migrants and some other birds.
A female Summer Tanager was again at the n. end of Central Park, after the find of that bird on early morning of Sept. 11 by C. Roberto. Multiple Scarlet Tanagers and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are continuing to be seen at Central Park and many other sites in the county. Lincolns Sparrow was found again at Bryant Park in mid-Manhattan, with some observers reporting more than one of that species.
At Central Park, both species of expected cuckoos were seen on Saturday and at least 19 species of migratory warblers are present, with a possibility that additional species may be confirmed, or revealed. A Philadelphia Vireo confirmed with photos has been present in the Central Park Ramble, found and observed by not-for-profit bird observers and photographers. All five of the other annually expected vireos are also again present. A modestly-early Winter Wren was found on Friday at Central, and at least 5 migratory thrush species there continue to include Gray-cheeked, Swainsons, Wood, early for here Hermit Thrush as well as Veery. Also slightly-early, some Yellow-breasted Sapsuckers have been arriving in the county. Not especially early, Ruby-crowned Kinglets are appearing in some locations in the county, including for several days now at Central Park. Red-breasted Nuthatches are also continuing to be found, so far in modest numbers.
Migrants were ongoing at all areas within the county - small Canal Park in lower-west Manhattan had a good variety of warblers for the location, and many smaller - as well as larger - greenspaces and parks have had migrant birds into Saturday. Roosevelt Island as well as Randalls Island each have had good diversity for their respective areas of bird habitat.
More on additional birds in a future report, including some of the birds among the thousands noted from nocturnal observations including in particular, at the Tribute in Light which is by the 9-11 memorial in lower Manhattan - the Tribute in Light is monitored by bird observers each year as migrant birds are strongly attracted by the very bright light beams used when it is operating.
